With broken hearts, we share that on Friday, November 5, 2021, Summer Spaidal passed away from this world.
Summer was born in North Vancouver to loving parents Kelli Forster and Trevor Spaidal and older sibling, Mataya. As a young girl, she was very creative and enjoyed performing in her imaginary world. She danced like no one was watching, had lively conversations, whether or not others were participating, and looked forward to her future as a dragon. Summer was a sensitive and caring person, with an empathetic heart that sometimes felt too much. She loved deeply and was passionate about social justice and climate change.
She loved animals, most of all her white Husky, North, and she loved discussing marvel multiverse theories with her sister. She experimented with many different activities from dance, gymnastics, different arts and crafts, and public speaking. In the last few years, Summer has played ice hockey and field hockey, took up ukukele and taught herself to crochet (making some impressive clothes, stuffies and bookmarks). She loved listening to music, watching movies, and was especially into musicals; she knew every word of Hamilton.
Some of Summer’s favorite memories were on her many trips with friends and family. Summer loved her time on the family farm in Ontario, at a family wedding in Jamaica, doing “chopped Hawaii” with friends in Hawaii, experiencing a street food tour in Vietnam, everything at Disneyland, and Harry Potter Land with Mataya, Abby, and Jack.
Predeceased by grandmother Margaret Jane Forster in 2020. Survived by loving parents Kelli Forster and Trevor Spaidal; sister Mataya Spaidal; grandparents Lisa Spaidal, Bruce Forster, and Jim Hutchinson; aunts and uncles Ashley (Kurt) Boynton, Jessica (Jon) Broomfield, Karli Spaidal (Heather Lee), Jeremy (Hilary) Forster, and Jennifer Hutchinson; cousins Ava, Parker, Alex, Kariana, Greyson, Ella, and KJ; chosen family; Chad, Amanda, Jack, and Abby Mallow, as well as extended family members and friends.
Event to honour Summer will be streamed via Zoom.Donations may be made in Summer’s honour to her Go Fund Me page that will have donations go to two causes close to Summer’s heart: https://gofund.me/32b2133a

Kelli, Trevor, and Mataya, we are so deeply sorry for your family’s loss. We do not know you well, but our son Matteo was in Summer’s class at Anmore Elementary two years ago, and he remembers that she was always kind to the younger students in the class, and that she did amazing art work. Our daughter Anna is at Heritage Woods in Grade 10 with Mataya and has also been thinking about Mataya and your family. We cannot imagine what you are going through right now; please know many people are holding all of you in our hearts.
Tonight we will honour you Summer and commemorate the beauty you brought to those who loved you! From all the pictures and stories it is quite evident you were a magnificent human. Rest in Power Precious One!
Kelli, Trevor, and Mataya, We’d like to extend to you our heartfelt condolences in this sorrowful time.
Wish we could be there with you tonight, but we are there in spirit!
The Williams and Dobson Families are sending you all so much love across the miles, along with our condolences
We are heartbroken to hear of Summer’s passing and send our condolences. We remember the day our daughter Sarah came home so excited that there was a new friend in her grade at Anmore Elementary School – bumping the number of girls in the class to a grand total of 3. Together, the three bonded, joked, laughed and even tried their best at shotput at the elementary schools track and field meet. Those rich memories of happy times they together at school will be cherished. Our thoughts are with you all in this most difficult time.
Our most heartfelt and deepest condolences. Our son Ryder has fond memories of his time playing with Summer at Leigh elementary or at the park, and we are very saddened to learn of her passing. She was kind and funny, and we will always remember her time with him.
That was a sweet and loving tribute to a wonderful little person that inspired so much love is such a short time among us. We will keep those things that mattered so much to you in our minds and honour you by working for those that you wanted to honour and protect. We will keep your loving mom, dad and sister close to us. In our hearts forever darling Summer.
Kelli, I am so saddened to hear of your loss. I do not believe there are any words to comfort so I pray the loving memories of Summer surround you and your family at this time and in the future.
My deepest condolences to the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Sending lots of love and light your way during this difficult time.
I am thinking of your family often.
