Jean Paul Joseph

Hurtubise

Year of Birth: 1927
Passed Away: January 26th, 2026

Jean Paul Joseph Hurtubise passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in his 100th year. He was born on January 21, 1927, in St. Paul, Alberta. Following the passing of his mother at a young age, Jean Paul was raised by his father, an experience that helped shape the strong, resilient, and generous man he became.

Jean Paul lived in several communities throughout his life, including Owlseye, Alberta, where he farmed and was an active member of the community. He later settled in British Columbia, where he built a long and dedicated career. In 1947, he worked Forestry in Prince George, and from 1948 until his retirement in 1988, he was employed by Crown Zellerbach at Fraser Mills, serving in a variety of roles over four decades.

Known affectionately as “Johnny” to friends and family, he was a deeply social, warm, and humorous man who loved a good laugh and brought joy wherever he went. He was always ready to lend a helping hand—often found in a friend’s garage working on vehicles or helping someone around their home with whatever needed doing. His kindness, generosity, and easygoing nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Johnny shared a deep love of travel with his wife, Aline. Together, they enjoyed extensive trips across Canada and cherished their snowbird years in the United States, particularly in Arizona and California. In later years, many of their adventures were spent gallivanting cross-country by motorhome, often as part of a caravan with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

He had a lifelong love of country and western music, and sports. He enjoyed golf and bowling and was a talented athlete who proudly earned the title of five-pin bowling champion. A devoted sports fan, Johnny could often be found cheering enthusiastically for his grandchildren at baseball and softball games, and he was a loyal and passionate supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was also well known for bartending at social events, where his friendly personality and sense of humour made him a favourite among guests.

Johnny was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered for many years at Club Bel Âge in Maillardville and at the Festival du Bois. He was a proud and active member of the French community in Maillardville. One of his proudest legacies is the street he named in honour of his dedication to Fraser Mills – Millview—the very street where he raised his family.

Johnny was a devoted family man. He was especially close to his only son, Ronald, whom he loved tremendously, and he took great pride in his daughter-in-law Louise, his grandchildren Michelle (Tyler) and Neal (Brigitte), and his seven great-grandchildren.

Jean Paul was predeceased by his wife, parents and all of his brothers and sisters. He was the youngest and last surviving member of his immediate family.

Johnny will be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, love of laughter, and unwavering devotion to family, friends, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and joy that will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Memorial Mass to honour John on Friday, March 6 at 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 315 Walker St, Coquitlam.
