Passed Away: April 27th, 2025
Margaret Prosperi of Port Moody, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 85.
Margaret was born in 1940 to Hugh and Mary McCruden in Hove, England. After high school, Margaret worked in several jobs including a travel agency which helped inspire her lifelong interest in travel. At the age of 22, Margaret took a job as an au pair in Germany. Along with her friends in Wiesbaden, she would go dancing to the Italian bands playing at the Park Café. This is where she met the love of her life, Leo, who was working in Germany as a waiter. Despite the language barrier a dedicated and loving relationship developed and lasted for more than 62 years.
In 1963, Margaret and Leo immigrated to Montreal, Canada. Despite arriving to the shock of the cold winter weather, Margaret was determined to make a go of it in their new home. Roberto, their first son, was born in 1965. Followed by their second son Paolo, in 1969. Like many who have made similar journeys, Margaret and Leo faced the task of building a new life in unfamiliar surroundings without the support of extended family. Margaret found strength in her immediate family, celebrating the milestones of her children and developing new friendships in her adopted country while always maintaining a strong connection to her lifelong friends and family in Britain. She also cherished time spent with friends in Florida, her and Leo’s winter home.
Rarely the loudest person in the room, Margaret had a steadiness that created a foundation of trust and comfort for her family. She was always ready to listen, a truly empathetic person who cared deeply for others and was not prone to judge people or their circumstances.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Leo, and is survived by her loving sons Roberto and Paolo (Candice), her grandchildren Kate and Jack who she loved dearly, and many friends and extended family. A private burial was held in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
