Ali Akbar Sanaie, 92, of Coquitlam, B.C., passed away on November 22, 2025. Born in Shahmirzad, Iran, he built his life through hard work and determination. He lived in Tehran until the 1979 Iranian Revolution, after which he immigrated to Canada and continued his entrepreneurial path. In Coquitlam, he operated the well-known Darling Café at Coquitlam Centre.

Mr. Sanaie was a devoted member of the Bahá’í Faith. He attended several international Bahá’í conferences, traveled widely and twice made pilgrimage to the Bahá’í Holy Land in Haifa. He enjoyed staying informed about world events, exercising, playing chess and cards, and solving sudoku.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rezvan; four children and four grandchildren. He will be remembered as a generous, loyal, hardworking man whose greatest pride was his family and whose life was marked by service, perseverance, and faith.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carmen Vivianne Marie de Sousa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She left us peacefully on November 25, 2025, at the age of 76.

Carmen was born in St. Paul, Alberta, and lived a life full of love and purpose. As a devoted family matriarch, she is survived by her husband, Jose de Sousa, and their two children, Lizete (Greg) Dureault and Dean (Katie) de Sousa. Carmen derived immense joy from being a wife, mother, and grandmother to her five grandchildren: Bronte, Hailey, Bianca, Nicholas, and Jacob. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Winter, who was the light of her life. Carmen cherished every moment spent with her family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.

An avid golfer and traveller, Carmen loved spending time with Joe and their family at their summer home in Loule, Portugal. She had a special talent for caring for her loved ones, and her passion for golf was only matched by her love of music.

Carmen’s kindness and generosity touched the lives of everyone she met. She was a mentor to many and often volunteered at local community events, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Nicholas Parish, 20675 – 87 Avenue, Langley. Followed by interment at Fort Langley Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Carmen’s life and share their memories.

Carmen will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

A loving mother, wife, sister, and woman of remarkable wit, thoughtfulness, and generosity, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones in New Westminster after a courageous two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 71 years old.

Born on November 17, 1953, Candice grew up in South Vancouver, where she met her husband, Gordon. They shared fifty-two devoted years of marriage and spent the last thirty-nine of those years in Coquitlam, where they raised their family.

Candice’s greatest pride and joy was her three children, to whom she dedicated herself as a loving stay-at-home mother for a good part of her adult life. Though her children were her world, she also pursued her entrepreneurial spirit, successfully opening and running her own antique and collectibles store in New Westminster from 1997-2001.

A woman of keen interests, Candice was an avid collector, renowned for her beautiful collections of vintage and antique purses and a large, beloved array of vintage Barbie and other dolls. This passion led her to become a long-standing member of the Dogwood Doll Club for over thirty years, where she cherished the camaraderie and creativity of her fellow enthusiasts. She had a sharp mind that she loved to exercise daily with word and logic puzzles, and a deep appreciation for music, especially the captivating voice of Angelina Jordan.

Candice will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness, creativity, generous spirit, her wonderful sense of humour, and her uncanny clairsentience. Her legacy is one of unwavering devotion, a passion for beautiful things and unique experiences, and a family built on unconditional love.

Candice is survived by her husband, Gordon Finlayson; her children, Brad Finlayson, Grant Finlayson, and Dani Wheatley (Jason); and her sister, Darla Coulson. She was predeceased by her parents, Len, and Gloria Coulson, and her two brothers, Lenny and Trey.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 12:30 pm at the Centennial Pavilion at 630 Poirier Street in Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Candice’s memory to the Union Gospel Mission, an organization she supported throughout her life.

Philip Arthur Potter was born February 18^th, 1948, in Plymouth, England. He came to Canada in 1958 and settled in Edmonton, Alberta. Philip was the oldest of 6 siblings and helped in raising his younger siblings. He graduated in 1966 and joined the RCMP that same year. He enjoyed 12 years serving in the RCMP. His first posting was to Kamloops, in 1967, where he met and fell in love with his forever, Marlene. He won the hearts of Marlene’s extensive Italian family almost immediately. Next came Ashcroft in ‘69. Phil and Marlene married in 1971 and started their family there (Tanya ‘74) before his final posting to Vancouver drug squad, moving them to North Delta in 1975. It was here that their family continued to grow and eventually they had 4 children (Michelle ‘77, Kristopher ‘82 and Geoffrey ‘84). Together, they decided to shift careers and in 1979 they opened the Moonrakers Pub, in New Westminster. For 30 years they ran a successful business before retiring in 2009. During those years they made many friends and have wonderful memories. They moved to their forever home in Coquitlam in 1985. They hosted numerous celebrations over the last 40 years. They watched their children grow up and get married and have babies. They traveled the world with friends John and Lisa and Doug and Mary, and together he and Marlene built a life that he was so proud of. They would have been married for 54 years this month.

Dad loved many things, Mom most of all, but also watching sports, especially when his sons played (hockey, lacrosse and football). He enjoyed his many fishing trips with his buddy, Gary, spent endless hours organizing things like the garage, and drawers in the house. The bills in his wallet always had to be in order and the dishwasher loaded correctly. He was also an avid reader and puzzler.

One of his greatest strengths was his generosity. He had a heart of gold, and anyone that met him would attest to this. He was always there to lend a hand, give you a place to lay your head, feed you a warm meal, or lend you a dollar. His infectious smile and baby blue eyes made it hard not to love him.

To his 7 grandchildren he was known as “Gampy” and in his retired days, he loved spending time watching them dance, play sports or just sit with them and play. Our family gatherings were often loud and hectic, but you would always find Dad sitting in his chair, proudly watching it all happen around him.

He is predeceased by his parents Molly and Reginald. Survived by his loving wife Marlene, daughters Tanya (Jason Collins), Michelle (Kent Schechtel), and sons Kristopher, and Geoffrey (Kaela). Grandchildren; Britton Collins, Stella and Roarke Schechtel, Maeve and Elsie Potter, and step-grandsons Chase and Michael Russell. Also, by his loving sister Sheila Yuzyk, who was by his side day and night in his final months. Sister-in-law Jane (Mike Wolfram) and brother-in-law Glen (Dawn Favali). His brothers Mike (Yvonne), Richard, Gary (Sheila), and sister Karen. Also mourning his death are numerous relatives, family friends, and neighbours.

He was larger than life and leaves an even larger hole in our hearts. Though they are heavy, we find comfort in his memories and the many stories we can all share.

We are deeply saddened to announce Leroy Roache suddenly passed away on August 12, 2025.

He will be missed and fondly remembered for his sense of humour and kindness. He is survived by his wife, daughter, grandchildren, family, and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lindon Derek William Graham. He passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2025. Remembered by his beloved wife Carol of 58 years and children Kevin (Marie), Richard (Cher) and Alan (Kathy). Along with his cousin and steadfast mate Kenny Graham (Linda), niece Pat Postle, nephew Ivan Graham in England.

Lindon was born in Smethwick England on June 23, 1941. After marrying his soulmate Carol in 1966 and having 3 boys, they immigrated to Canada where they raised their family. He was a proud and dedicated husband, father and friend who wore his heart on his sleeve and loved life to the max.

Lindon was an avid gardener and won awards in England for his beautiful chrysanthemums. He could clear a dance floor in seconds twirling Carol around in true ballroom dance fashion. He loved to work, a man of unlimited skills and talent. He was a dedicated supporter of the Celtic Football Club. He made lifelong friends through his passion for football and the Vancouver Celtic Club.

A Celebration of life to be held on July 12, 2025 at 3pm at 1056 Walls Ave Coquitlam. A toast to follow at Legion 263 in Coquitlam at 6:30pm.

Lindon will be greatly missed by all.

Margaret Prosperi of Port Moody, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 85.

Margaret was born in 1940 to Hugh and Mary McCruden in Hove, England. After high school, Margaret worked in several jobs including a travel agency which helped inspire her lifelong interest in travel. At the age of 22, Margaret took a job as an au pair in Germany. Along with her friends in Wiesbaden, she would go dancing to the Italian bands playing at the Park Café. This is where she met the love of her life, Leo, who was working in Germany as a waiter. Despite the language barrier a dedicated and loving relationship developed and lasted for more than 62 years.

In 1963, Margaret and Leo immigrated to Montreal, Canada. Despite arriving to the shock of the cold winter weather, Margaret was determined to make a go of it in their new home. Roberto, their first son, was born in 1965. Followed by their second son Paolo, in 1969. Like many who have made similar journeys, Margaret and Leo faced the task of building a new life in unfamiliar surroundings without the support of extended family. Margaret found strength in her immediate family, celebrating the milestones of her children and developing new friendships in her adopted country while always maintaining a strong connection to her lifelong friends and family in Britain. She also cherished time spent with friends in Florida, her and Leo’s winter home.

Rarely the loudest person in the room, Margaret had a steadiness that created a foundation of trust and comfort for her family. She was always ready to listen, a truly empathetic person who cared deeply for others and was not prone to judge people or their circumstances.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Leo, and is survived by her loving sons Roberto and Paolo (Candice), her grandchildren Kate and Jack who she loved dearly, and many friends and extended family. A private burial was held in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Suzanne Marie-Gabrielle Wilkinson on April 20, 2025, at the age of 96.

Born in 1928 in Hanoi, Vietnam, Suzanne’s life journey took her across continents—from her early years in Hanoi and Singapore, to time spent in Upton, England, and finally settling in Canada, where she lived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Suzanne embraced the most demanding and underappreciated of roles—that of mother and homemaker. Raising eight children, she devoted her life to her family with unwavering strength and devotion. Her humour remained youthful and sharp throughout her life, and despite many challenges, she met each day with tenacity and spirit. She was a fighter to the end.

Suzanne loved the written word, especially the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming, and found great joy in reading and playing classical guitar. Her heart resonated with music, French culture, and the sparkle of her husband Derek’s blue eyes. Dining out was one of her favourite pleasures, especially when shared with those she loved.

Her life was also enriched by travels to France and the United States, and she brought with her a curiosity and elegance that left an impression wherever she went.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Derek Blair Wilkinson. Suzanne is survived by her eight children: Mike, Ysanne (Dick Longpre), Maryse, Chrys (Sue), Guy (Anna), Pierre (Deb), Paul, and Anne-Marie (Matt Caruso). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Galen, Sarah Longpre (Michael Warwick), Tristan Thorburn, Derek, Josh Wilkinson (Jen), Emma (Tyler McLaren), Michael, Thea, Sam, Abraham Caruso, Grace Caruso and great-great grandchildren: Everly Warwick, Claire Warwick, Logan Wilkinson

Suzanne will be remembered for her strength, her humour, her fierce love for her family, and the quiet joy she found in life’s simple pleasures.

With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of Glen Warren Hoppe on April 14, 2025, at the age of 62. Born in New Westminster and raised in Surrey. Glen made his home in Port Moody, where he built not only a life but a legacy—of family, love, and unforgettable presence.

Glen was a Red Seal carpenter with over 30 years of experience—a true craftsman and builder in every sense of the word. His work reflected his care, precision, and the pride he took in creating something meaningful and lasting. He found great joy in his role at VGH Maintenance, where he was known for brightening the days of staff and patients alike by wearing his signature Hawaiian shirts every Friday.

To those who knew him, Glen was a contradiction in the best possible way: a big man with a big voice, gruff on the outside but a complete teddy bear at heart. He was real, emotional, and deeply kind. His emotional intelligence, quiet strength, and incredible cooking were just some of the things that made him so loved and admired.

A passionate Manchester United supporter, craft beer enthusiast, and gentle soul with a soft spot for animals, Glen surrounded himself with the things he loved. Whether he was cheering on his team, enjoying a cold pint, or listening to the music of Rush and Queen, he found joy and connection in the simple pleasures of life. Ultimately, he was happiest when surrounded by his family.

Glen is survived by his beloved wife, Dawn; his children, Calvin (Jodie), with grandchildren Ella and Carter, and Heather (Alex), with granddaughter Isabel; and his stepdaughter, Jess. He is lovingly remembered by his father, Ronald; his brother, Les (Laura); and many close cousins. Glen shared a special bond with his nephew Eric and Eric’s family, and he leaves behind a wide circle of cherished friends who will miss him deeply.

Glen joins his mother, Donna; his best friends, Rick and Lyle; and his beloved pets, Sasha, Cassie, and Bear—all of whom he missed dearly.

Leonida (Leo) Prosperi, of Port Moody, British Columbia, passed away suddenly on March 24, 2025, at the age of 85.

Leo was born in 1940 to Pietro and Teresa in Rome, Italy. After graduating from high school, Leo travelled to Germany and met the love of his life, Margaret (née McCruden), while working as a waiter at the US Air Force base in Wiesbaden.

In 1963, Leo and Margaret immigrated to Montreal, Canada. Leo worked as a waiter at the Ritz Carlton Hotel and attended the Radio College of Canada, earning his technical engineering diploma. Leo worked for many years at Nortel (formerly Northern Telecom) and retired after a long and distinguished career.

Leo was a proud Italian-Canadian who lived life with laughter, humour, and always enjoyed good conversation. An avid golfer, Leo found happiness on the links – whether at his and Margaret’s home away from home in Fort Myers, or in British Columbia where he enjoyed friendly competition and the camaraderie of his fellow golf partners. His passion for the game was matched only by his appreciation for a good glass of wine, which he enjoyed during quiet moments and family gatherings alike. Leo was also a dedicated soccer coach and former president of the Chateauguay Soccer Association where he channelled his passion and love of the sport.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, sons Roberto and Paolo (Candice), grandchildren Kate and Jack, and many friends and extended family.

Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 140 Moody St, Port Moody.  A private burial will be held in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
