Passed away peacefully on November 24^th, 2022.

Frocia was a fiercely loyal and generous friend, beloved Aunt, and cherished surrogate grandmother.    She was a true dame in the purest sense of the word.  She had an incredible sense of style and flair, and relished being the centre of attention in every room.  Frocia had an irrevocable moral sense and was never afraid to tell you when you ran afoul of it.   A real foodie, she was an incredible hostess whose dinner parties were legendary.  She loved being in the presence of intelligent people and had a special place in her heart for animals and children.  An extremely witty conversationalist, she often had people doubled over in laughter.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her parents, Paul and Catherine Nachine; brother Frank; sisters Olga and Anna; and husband, Roy Pyper.  She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Andy died on November 2, 2022, at the age of sixty. He was raised by his loving parents, Ritva Salo and Esko Ahonen. Andy was born in Vancouver and raised in Burnaby. He proudly called himself one of the “Capital Hillbillys”.

Andy was a humble, honest and outgoing guy. He loved watching the Canucks and watching soccer, especially when Liverpool was playing. Old time Rock n Roll was in his soul. Laughing with friends with a Jamiesons in his hand was his idea of time well spent.

Andy was the kind of person who would whisper a joke in your ear at the most inappropriate times for a laugh.

Predeceased by his father Esko and his brother Timmy.

Survived by soulmate and life partner Leeola Zanetti, mother Ritva, children Kaitlin and Riley (Stefani Vujadin), sister Laura Bryant, nieces Eva Bryant, Jessica Bryant – Rönnqvist (Daniel), the mother of his children Jody McGill and many friends and family.

Ashokkumar Subramaniam, 64, of Vancouver, passed away on October 9^th due to the cardiac arrest he suffered a few days earlier. Ashok was born on June 24th, 1958 to E.R. Subramaniam and P.K.Chandra in Sri Lanka. Ashok had three siblings; he was a loving brother and did his high school in Vivekananda Vidayalaya, Colombo.

The Civil unrest in Sri Lanka meant that he had to migrate to a new place and find a safe home for his family. He did spend some time working in Saudi Arabia for a short while before settling in Vancouver, Canada which he called home to the very end.

His children looked up to him for guidance and protection all through his years. He taught the meaning of being morally respectful and appreciative of everyday we were blessed with. The list of people Ashok has helped and supported throughout his life is endless. Even as the years passed, Ashok managed to follow and support those around him with care and compassion. Those dearest to him recognize his thoughtfulness as a genuine act that always came from the heart. What brought most joy into his life was seeing his kids prosper, from watching his daughter excel in the art of dance, and his two sons follow their passions in sports and education, Ashok was there every step of the way cheering and supporting them in their pursuit for success and happiness.

Ashok worked for Primerica Financial Services as an insurance specialist for the major part of his career before branching out on his own. He also worked in the real estate industry for a brief period. A loving son, brother, husband, father and friend to many, Ashok is known as the person who would be the first one to show up when someone is in need, a quality so rare which made him very unique, and he holds a special place in the hearts of everyone who crossed his life.

Ashok is predeceased by his parents and his elder son, Kesavan. He is survived by his wife, Sugirtha; his two children, Akilaa and Kiran. He was taken very suddenly, but his legacy, lessons, and life will never be forgotten. We will love you forever and always.

Tamara was born in Vancouver to Sophia and David Knox. She grew up in Richmond. Tamara was a lifelong ice hockey fan and spent many a Hockey Night in Canada glued to the TV with her dad. She was a die-hard Canucks fan from day one, attending as many games as she could. If the Canucks were in the playoffs, she would be glued to a TV somewhere munching on chips and dip. If a Canadian team was in the playoffs, she would be following them.

Tamara loved to dance, if you were into the 80’s dance scene in Vancouver or Richmond you probably were in the same clubs as she was.

Tamara believed in the social contract and giving. She volunteered for several organizations including Rape Crisis Centre and Everywoman’s Health Centre. She was a prolific blood donor and would receive requests for her rare AB negative blood when there was a need. A proud union member, she had several positions in the Telecommunications Workers Union.

Tamara was extremely proud of being a BCIT graduate and one of the first female electronic students.

She started a second career in Funeral Service, graduating from the Canadian College of Funeral Service in 2006. She also volunteered her time for over 9 years, tutoring students at the college.

Tamara was capable of learning anything she put her mind to and found great joy in not just tutoring but teaching others how to learn and study affectively.

Tamara was an avid reader of almost everything, from the classics to murder mysteries, magazines to textbooks. She often was in the middle of several books at the same time.

Other hobbies/activities: Tamara was a sailor and owned her own boat with which she had a love/hate affair with. She was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed anything that was fast, although she could and would fall asleep going one hundred miles an hour down a country road with the wind in her face.

Tamara had a disarming sense of humour. She was also not one to let an opportunity slip by with her leap before you look attitude.

She loved to travel and went with her mother to Russia on several occasions and with her father to Britain. She frequently visited with her Aunt Vera at different U.S. Military posts in Hawaii, California, and Mississippi. She trotted the globe with different girlfriends to places like London, Paris, Cairo, Cabo, Las Vegas and more. She enjoyed travelling for business and made time to enjoy cities like New York, Washington, and Toronto. She was fluent in Russian and could get by in French. Tamara enjoyed getting her boots on the ground as much as she enjoyed the high life and was at home in a B&B or The Savoy. She often spoke of visiting her family in Russia and Ukraine and staying in either their Soviet era apartment or the dacha in Ukraine.

Tamara leaves behind many dear friends. She collected “onlys.” (Only children as friends.) She could pick them out of a crowd and was drawn to them. She loved animals, particularly one named Casper, a 140 lbs. Rottweiler who loved her back even more. In lieu of flowers, donations to BCSPCA are suggested.

Thérèse died peacefully in Richmond at the age of 98. She was born in Lafond, Alberta to parents Marie (née Desaulniers) and Pierre Coté. She became a beloved schoolteacher at Our Lady of Lourdes in Maillardville. Thérèse married the love of her life Lucien in 1946. They had a wonderful marriage for fifty-years until her husband’s death in 1997.

Thérèse was a patient, kind, artistic and creative person. She kept herself busy as a widow by taking up watercolour painting. She developed her talent and was in several art shows and even sold some of her pieces.

Family and her faith was paramount to Thérèse. She cherished her time with family. She continued to get to mass weekly, as long as she was physically able.

Thérèse leaves behind five children, their spouses, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

She never lost her sense of humour or her stunning smile.

Pam passed away suddenly in Vancouver, B.C., at the age of 74. Pamela (Pam) Susanne Infanti née Wormald was proud to be from the Kootenays. Born in Nelson and raised in Trail, Pam was brought up by her parents Jack and Marjorie. She grew up very active in sports. In the summers, she would swim at Christina Lake or float down the Columbia River; in the winter she would spend her days on the slopes of Red Mountain.

Pam attended Selkirk College in Castlegar and then after graduating from St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Pam became an extraordinary nurse, recognized for helping countless patients and their families. She was an inspiration to many when she went back to school in her later years, obtaining her Nursing degree and graduating with honours from UBC. Her career included work at Lions Gate Hospital in Post-Surgical and Emergency care, and in the Vancouver community, where she was a fierce advocate for her patients and their families.

Pam loved to garden; indeed, her garden was worthy of being in any gardening magazine. In addition, she challenged herself with creating countless gorgeous quilts, created projects using wool and intricate stiches, and brought images to life with rug hooking. Her garden and crafts brought her peace, joy, and pride. She was a lifelong learner, avid reader and loved music.

Pam and Renato shared 52 loving years of marriage together. Notably, they enjoyed many memorable road trips within Canada. Their love for one another never wavered and they provided endless support for each other over the years.

She was most certainly a dog lover, growing up with Boston Terriers and passing that love for Bostons to her husband, kids and now grandchildren.

Pam is survived by her loving husband Renato Infanti, her son Gordon (Cat) Infanti, her daughter Linda (Richard) Bailey, and her three grandchildren Lucas and Nicolas (Linda) and Maliya (Gordon).

Pam will be deeply missed by many dear friends, neighbours, and work colleagues.

Renato would like to acknowledge the excellent care provided for Pam by the healthcare team during her short stay at VGH.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring, Pam’s favourite season

Gloria died in Coquitlam on September 5, 2022, at the age of 97. You may have met her at a local coffee shop, Lougheed Mall, or maybe even the casino. Gloria made friends everywhere that she went as she was an outgoing social person. She was always meticulously put together, never leaving home with a hair out of place. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. After her husband Jack retired from CP Rail, they made special memories when taking countless trips throughout Canada via train. No doubt that she came home from each trip with a new pen pal, as she made friends everywhere that she went. Gloria loved to knit and continued to knit well into her nineties. She made countless toques that she would donate for the homeless.

Predeceased by husband Jack and son John. She will be missed by many friends who she has left behind. In honour of Gloria, please phone up a friend who you haven’t seen for a while and go for a cup of coffee in her memory.

Ted was born in Chorzow, Poland to parents Gertruda and Stanislaw.

He emigrated to Canada in 1961 with his wife and eldest son and resided in Vancouver until they moved to Maple Ridge in 1977.

Ted was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He lived happily alongside his loving wife Anna of sixty five years and together they created a beautiful family of their own.

He leaves behind his wife Anna and their three children, and their spouses, George (Brita), Dorothy (Guy) and John (Sandra), 8 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an uncle to Danuta, Zbyszek, Iwonna, Beata, Ken and Meg.

In 1957 he was appointed as Mayor of Lidzbark, Warminski, Poland where he met his future wife at a May Day Picnic Dance.

Ted loyally worked for HA Simons Engineering Company for 34 years and his position took him to places abroad to explore more of the world.

Ted was a remarkable, generous man that impacted many people’s lives. He had many interesting stories that he would share with family and friends about his life events during the war.

His love of learning and discussing politics and current events lasted throughout his life until the time he passed away.

During his retirement he spent most of his time with his family, travelling and visiting family in Europe, the Philippines and Canada.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Hawthorn Care Facility Assisted Living who cared so deeply for Ted.

You are forever loved and will be truly missed. Thank you for everything you’ve given us during your time here with us.

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Don Goosen at Abbotsford General Hospital, British Columbia after a short and courageous battle with AL Amyloidosis.

Diagnosed December 2021, Don fought this cruel and rare disease with courage, strength and optimism before God took him home at the age of 57.

Don will be lovingly remembered by his mother Hedie; his partner Susan; his children, Alexis, Ty and Amanda, Matt and Maddie; Susan’s children Connor and Christine, Samantha and Devinder; granddaughters Amira and Presley; siblings Jack and Peggy, Debbie and Mike, Heidi; many nieces and nephews; Don is predeceased by his father Jacob Goosen, who passed eleven months previous on March 17, 2021.

Don was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and grew up in a family of four children. At a young age, his propensity for drums was evident when as a baby, his mom made a makeshift drum set with kitchen items in the late hours to keep him amused. This talent evolved into a ‘gig’ as drummer for a band Crystal Bridge in his youth. They would practice in the basement where Don’s grandmother would listen and adore their version of The Rose as it reminded her of a church hymn. Don’s loving and affectionate heart showed early when in kindergarten Don told his teacher he forgot what his mother looked like so that he could be walked to his home across the street to give her a hug. He grew up spending family vacations in Ontario, B.C., Disney World and Las Vegas where his sister Debbie remembers as ‘the babysitter’, her easy going and very caring brother Don spending his time fine tuning his skills at arcade games and pinball. Don professed God blessed him with a full head of hair and at the age of 16 it is believed after attending a pool party that his wavy locks transformed to a mass of curls.

Don attended Red River College in Winnipeg before investing in a lengthy career in Loss Prevention Investigation. He worked for companies including The Hudson’s Bay Company, Manitoba Lotteries Corporation at Club Regent Casino, Indigo Books, Cabela’s and finally The Northwest Company in a position that brought him opportunities to travel to remote communities including Arctic Bay, Iqaluit and Guam.

Don lived in the Winnipeg area most of his life where he raised his children with his children’s mother Joanne. They owned a hobby farm close to Niverville where they raised chickens, goats, sheep, bunnies, alpacas and even a donkey. It was also a wonderful place to practice one of Don’s many loves; football. A lifelong Miami Dolphin fan, the farm was a perfect place to throw the football with his boys and invent the infamous play “Hooks to Septic”. In addition to “The Fish”, Don’s love of Seinfeld was infectious and his appreciation of fine watches was his timeless passion.

Don moved to Chilliwack, BC at the beginning of 2020 to be with the love of his life Susan. Divine Intervention led them together when they met the previous year. A true gentleman and romantic, he asked her father for her hand in marriage and proposed in front of her parents on bended knee shortly after. Susan’s family treasured and embraced Don with open arms including her two Labrador pups, Winston and Bailey. Visions of retirement in paradise were beginning to be realized when they traveled to Mexico and put a deposit on their dream condo in December shortly before Don’s health took a turn. They shared a love beyond the world and Don gave her a forever with their numbered days.

Don’s infectious and welcoming personality attracted a large number of friends along his journey including his childhood friend group “Full Book” who inspired Don’s contagious and over use of the word “Full”. Many who met Don immediately considered him like a brother. His wonderful sense of humour, overflowing generosity and loving kindness will long be remembered by his family and friends.

The family would like thank the staff of Chilliwack General Hospital’s 4th and 2nd floors and ICU as well as Abbotsford General Hospital’s ICU and CCU for their care and professional attention. As per Don’s wishes, a cremation has taken place. A private service and Celebration of Life is being held this summer near Don’s home in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Donations in Don’s memory can be made to the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders.

Derek Charles Benington passed away at the age of ninety-five in Port Moody, B.C. He was born  in Mafeking, South Africa to Charles William Crewdson Benington and Martha Petronella  Johanna De Klerk. He emigrated to Canada from South Africa in 2000 and was a resident of Port Moody.

He served in the South African Airforce, as a navigator/bomb-aimer, and was stationed in Egypt  and Italy during World War II. He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1951 as  an Architect. He worked in private practise and became a partner in one of the largest  architectural firms in Johannesburg. Later he worked as Head Architect of Rand Mines  Company Ltd and finished his career as architect for the Physical Facilities Department of the  Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in South Africa.

Derek married his sweetheart, Sheila Stacey on July 5, 1958. He was a faithful and devoted  husband throughout their almost 63 years of marriage. Together they raised their six children, in a loving home environment. Derek was adored by his children and made them all  feel valued and supported.

Predeceased by daughter Karen.

Survived by loving wife Sheila, children Lesley,  Brian, Alan, Roger and Diane,twenty-two grandchildren,  and seventeen great grandchildren.

Derek was a skilled carpenter, an artist, an excellent marksman, a man who loved birds, animals and the outdoors, and who made exercise a regular part of his routine. He was gentle,  kind, loyal, trustworthy, patient, and honest. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus  Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
